Recognition of the Koasek Abenaki of the Koas
Vermont House of Representative Kate Web has just informed us that the Koasek recognition bill is āon the wallā of the House.Ā This means that the bill, which was officially āreadā this legislative session, is in line to be taken up at the beginning of the 2012 legislative session.Ā Since the Nulhegan and Elnu Bills passed the committees and the full General assembly unanimously, there is no possibility that the KoasekĀ Abenaki of the Koas Ā will not pass both houses!!
As a backupāeven if the legislature DOES NOT take up the bill, the Koasek of the Koas will automatically receive recognition WITHOUT ANY ACTION BY THE LEGISLATURE OR GOVERNOR exactly two years after its submission to the Vermont General Assembly, in March 2013.Ā So there is no possibility that recognition willĀ not come.Ā All that is needed is patience.Ā The Vermont Abenakis have waited almost 40 years, now for Koasek, recognition is assured in 2012, or 2013 if nobody does anythingānot very likely.
